Learning to machine quilt... I finally got a machine that could do free motion quilting for my birthday last year. But I am still unfamiliar with drawing quilting patterns on a quilt to do something beside stitch in the ditch or an allover meander like I've been doing here on this quilt...I did meander in some leaf shapes in this one, and hearts, stars etc in a few baby quilts, but I'd love to learn other patterns traditionally used...and I would like to try the baptist fans someday too on a hand quilted project...Is Harriet Hargrave's book about Heirloom Machine Quilting the best book to learn from. Just looking at other peoples quilts inspires me, but would love to learn HOW to do it as well as get ideas for designing. Can any folk out there point me in the right direction to "bring my quilting up a notch" LOL???

Pathways to Better Quilting by Sally Terry has recently been recommended to me as a good book for machine quilting. I haven't seen it yet though...

I have Harriet's book and it's great! There are some amazing examples of her quilting and some good practice projects. There is also an Australian quilter, Lee Cleland (She wrote Quilting makes the Quilt, Feathers that Fly and a few others I think) which is great too.
